Bloomscore · Garden commissions
Music, written for your garden.
Composed from your garden, and premiered among its flowers.

The idea
Telling the story of your garden.
Families have long commissioned landscape paintings of their gardens. Bloomscore is a musical portrait, of the garden and of what makes it special to you.
Every garden holds a story. It might be the tree planted the year a child was born, roses grown from a grandmother's cutting, or the corner where the evening light falls. That story is where the music begins. And if you would rather simply let the garden speak, its light, its seasons and its beauty are story enough.
Glenda Luck walks your garden in season, listens to it and gathers its flowers. Then she writes a piece of music that belongs to that garden alone. Its first performance takes place where it was born: in the garden, for your guests, at the hour you choose.
Afterwards it stays with your family: the Illuminated Score, the score bound and dedicated in your name, and a recording of the premiere.

What is a garden to you?
For some, it is a rose garden tended for forty years. For others, it is a meadow of wildflowers running to the mountains, a grove of aspens shimmering and whispering in the wind, an English border at the height of summer, the sound of water at the bottom of the hill. It may be an old olive grove, or a single fig tree by the kitchen door. It may be fields your family has farmed for generations: wheat turning gold, an orchard in blossom, a vineyard at harvest. It may even be the green edge of a jungle after the rains, or the plains at first light, where the grass moves like the sea.
A garden is wherever you belong to the land: somewhere you return to, season after season, and feel most yourself. Tell us what yours is. That is where the music begins.

Where the music is played
From private gardens to botanical sanctuaries.

Private gardens
A family garden, a new landscape unveiled, an anniversary or a wedding at home.

Estates
Historic grounds and the people who care for them.

Botanical gardens
A new work for a garden's season, gala or opening, performed among its collections.

Clubs & hotels
A terrace, a courtyard, a course in bloom, given a sound of its own.

The Legacy
Your name, in the music.
Your commission can carry your family's name or your garden's, such as The Ashworth Garden Quartet, with a formal dedication written into the score.
In 1806 Beethoven wrote three string quartets for Count Razumovsky, the Russian ambassador in Vienna. More than two centuries later they are still called the Razumovsky Quartets, and his name is printed in concert programs around the world. A commission is how a family's name becomes part of music's story.
With the dedicated score comes the recording of your premiere, captured live in your garden: everything your family keeps, for generations.

The composer
Glenda Luck
From the first walk through your garden to the last note of its premiere, Glenda is with you.
Glenda Luck is a composer of chamber, choral and operatic music, for string quartet, voices, guitar, brass and piano. Her works have been premiered from the Teatro Mancinelli in Orvieto, Italy, to concert halls in Colorado.
Her work begins with listening. Before a note is written, Glenda spends unhurried time in the place a work is for, at dawn and at dusk, in wind and in stillness, attending to its birdsong, its water, the rhythm of its paths, and to the people who love it. Only then does she begin to compose.
Every work begins by hand, and she shapes it slowly, line by line, until it could belong to no other place. Each work is conceived for its setting, its musicians and the hour of its premiere, and it is finished only when every phrase rings true.

Your evening
Bloomscore brings the music. You set the scene.
The celebration around your premiere is yours to shape: the guest list, the dinner and the bar, the lighting and the flowers on the tables, with the planner and caterers you already trust. Glenda works alongside them, so the music arrives at exactly the right moment and the musicians have all they need: seating, shade, and a quiet stage in your garden.
Should you wish: an encore performance at a future celebration, or new music for another season of your garden.
Questions
Before we begin.
Do you plan the event?
Bloomscore creates the music; your planner creates the evening around it: the dinner, the bar, the lighting and the guests. Glenda works hand in hand with them, so the music arrives at exactly the right moment.
What do the musicians need on the day?
A level, quiet spot in your garden, chairs without arms, and shade or cover from sun and rain. A short pause in service while the music plays lets your guests hear every note. Your planner receives a note with everything ahead of time.
Will Glenda travel to us?
Yes, wherever your garden is. Her travel to walk your garden, and to be with you at the premiere, is part of your commission.
How far ahead should we begin?
Six to nine months. Composition takes three to four months, and the premiere is timed to your garden's finest season.
What if we don't have a story to share?
That is just as welcome. Glenda can draw on the garden alone, its light, its seasons and its character, and the music is no less yours.
Does it have to be a garden?
Gardens are where Bloomscore began, but any land you love can be heard: an orchard, a wildflower meadow, the open range of a ranch.
Can a commission be given as a gift?
Beautifully so. Glenda works quietly with you, and the person you are honoring first hears their music at the premiere, among their own flowers.
Who owns the music?
The work is named for your family or your garden and dedicated to you in the score, for as long as it is played. Glenda keeps the copyright, as composers do, which lets the work be performed and remembered for generations.
